The Vintage African Mahogany 8x14 Custom Snare Drum

$795.00

This 8x14 custom handcrafted snare drum is built from 100% African Mahogany wood staves. This drum has a big fat vintage sound due to its thin shell with reinforcing rings milled directly into the shell, softer wood, and roundover/30 degree bearing edges.

As for the finish, I wanted to do something that was reminiscent of my childhood in Michigan. I used to love it when, after a long cold winter, things would start warming up and underneath the hard clear ice on lakes in Michigan, you’d start to see some cracks, like pane of glass was shattering. Through careful wood prep and a special technique, I achieved that look with the iron orange color being the color of the water in Lake Erie as I remember it. I also added a dual black fade. That was all covered with durable high gloss polyester. This drum has:

  • roundover/30 degree bearing edges.

  • a 0.28” thick stave shell with .45” thick reinforcing rings

  • handmade low mass black powdercoated lugs made by Champagne Drums in Canada

  • black nickel triple flanged hoops and tension rods

  • 25 strand snare wires

  • Trick black throw off and butt plate

  • Remo heads.

THIS DRUM IS SOLD, BUT I CAN BUILD ANOTHER SIMILAR TO IT, OR CUSTOMIZE IT TO YOUR LIKING.
