A steam-bent shell is one single plank of wood, thinned, steamed until it bends, and wrapped around a form with a single joint. The grain runs unbroken all the way around the drum, which makes these the most open and resonant shells built here.

Steam-bending is the oldest way to make a drum shell and the least forgiving — one mistake and the plank is gone. Every steam-bent drum from Seven Six Drum Company is finished and assembled by hand in New Orleans and ships anywhere in the world.
