This 8x14” custom handcrafted snare drum is built from Central American Padauk. Padauk has a hardness similar to hard maple, but has a much more complex grain structure and appearance. The red color you see here is not a stain, it’s the actual color of the wood. I topped it off with 9 coats of high gloss 2K Polyester clear coat. My client requested a thinner shell than I usually build to achieve a lower fundamental tone and fatter sound. This custom snare drum has that fat snare drum sound, but if tuned higher, it snaps, crackles, and pops, and is a gorgeous addition to any drum kit. This drum has:
offset roundover/30 degree batter and offset 45 degree hybrid bearing edges.
a 0.30” thick stave shell
brass lugs with dark patina and brass shavings in the center of each post, and brass throw off and butt plate, handmade for Seven Six Drums in Serbia
black nickel triple flanged hoops and tension rods
Puresound Custom Pro 24 strand snare wires
