The Fat Padauk Custom Snare Drum

This 8x14” custom handcrafted snare drum is built from Central American Padauk. Padauk has a hardness similar to hard maple, but has a much more complex grain structure and appearance. The red color you see here is not a stain, it’s the actual color of the wood. I topped it off with 9 coats of high gloss 2K Polyester clear coat. My client requested a thinner shell than I usually build to achieve a lower fundamental tone and fatter sound. This custom snare drum has that fat snare drum sound, but if tuned higher, it snaps, crackles, and pops, and is a gorgeous addition to any drum kit. This drum has:

• offset roundover/30 degree batter and offset 45 degree hybrid bearing edges.

• a 0.30” thick stave shell

• brass lugs with dark patina and brass shavings in the center of each post, and brass throw off and butt plate, handmade for Seven Six Drums in Serbia

• black nickel triple flanged hoops and tension rods

• Puresound Custom Pro 24 strand snare wires

• Evans heads.

***This drum was custom built for a client and is therefore sold, but I can build another just like it or adjust specs to your choosing. Turnaround time is only 4-6 weeks
