The Hurricane Chinaberry Custom Snare Drum

This 6.75x14” custom snare drum is built from Chinaberry wood that was harvested directly from a Chinaberry tree here in New Orleans that was knocked down by Hurricane Ida in 2021. My former associate photographer, Scott Myers, harvested the wood and gave me some. Check out his woodworking - he’s on Instagram at Myers and Son Atelier.

Chinaberry is a bit softer than hard maple and has REALLY cool figuring. This is just about the MOST New Orleans drum I’ve built - wood from New Orleans that came about as a result of a hurricane in New Orleans.. This drum has a semi-gloss polyurethane finish, to show off the grain and bring out the lustre. This custom snare drum has a huge tuning range and is a beautiful example of figured exotic wood.
